How much time and money are you going to spend starting your SDR or inside sales team? Do you know?

I do! Chances are you will spend 9-12 months without any tangible leads and at least $250K on head count (1-2), marketing automation systems, gathering resources, figuring out scripts and many more things you probably have not thought of.


Do you need an SDR/inside sales team, yes. Even if you are first to market you still need an SDR team to solidify marketshare. Many times it's the founding team that says...we need an SDR/inside sales team. How do we start? That is okay, the seed needs to be planted, but how do you make it grow?


Have you ever done outside or inside sales? Have you ever had to put together a plan of attack on persona's you need to go target for your product...does your product have a story?


There are many approaches you can take and things you will NOT want to do...like hire a team of 5 and assume they will figure out the laundry list of items that need to be sorted, created and executed. Who has the comp plan. daily goals, KPIs, expectation and Rules of Engagement with the sale team. Not you...has your head of sales even taken on such task? If you take them off revenue tasks and put them on building an SDR team, you have to be ready for sales to drop and that is a bad idea.
